Manuel Zelaya
Manuel “Mel" Zelaya won the presidential elections on 27 November 2005
for the Partido Liberal. He defeated Porfirio "Pepe" Lobo Sosa of the
Partido Nacional. Zelaya was born on 20 September 1952 in Olancho, Honduras. He
studied civil engineering at the Universidad Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) but
did not graduate. He is married to Xiomara Castro, and has four children: Zoe,
Xiomara, Héctor and José Manuel.
