COLOMBIA: Crisis over AUC demobilisation averted

For now at least, the demobilisation of the paramilitary organisations appears to have been spared a sudden reversal. On 17 June government officials and intermediaries negotiated a truce of at least a fortnight, until the constitutional court issues its final ruling on controversial details of the justice and peace law governing the process. More evidence appears to suggest, however, that some of the demobilised paramilitary have been rearming on the sly.
