NICARAGUA: Chávez intervenes, Washington participates

Only hours before presidential candidate Eduardo Montealegre treated a US audience last week to a tirade against Hugo Chávez 's 'intervention' in Nicaraguan politics (which he distinguished from US 'participation'), US immigration authorities intercepted a magistrate on Nicaragua's electoral council at Miami airport, withdrew his visa and expelled him. This came only days after another presidential candidate, Herty Lewites, sought assistance from the OAS against discrimination by the electoral council.
