Big Ford investment plan causes ripples. On 14 June a Californian newspaper, the
Oakland Press, reported on an internal Ford document revealing the auto firm's intention to invest up to US$9.2bn in Mexico over the coming few years as part of a scheme which could create up to 150,000 jobs in the country. It suggested that the intention was to have announced this at a time when the news could have had the greatest political impact on the electoral chances of Felipe Calderón, candidate of the ruling Partido Acción Nacional (PAN).
