BRAZIL: Army sent into Rio

Although the federal army was sent into Rio de Janeiro on 10 May, the various levels of government are squabbling about what it should be doing. The state government, which was against deploying the army, opposing both the federal government and the city government, is determined that troops in battledress should not be allowed to charge around one of the country's top tourist destinations.
