BOLIVIA: Demonstration prompts jitters

President Carlos Mesa's decision to authorise temporary gas exports to Argentina, and thus add an estimated US$104m to the government's export revenues, annoyed radicals in the country. Yesterday 5,000 miners and their supporters marched through La Paz protesting against the decision chanting “Mesa, you Chilean, the gas is not for sale." The miners also chucked several sticks of dynamite at office and shop windows.
