Tracking trends

BRAZIL | Unemployment down to single digits. The open urban unemployment rate fell by 0.8 percentage points in June to 9.4%, the lowest level on record since March 2002. Real incomes of those with jobs rose by 1.5 points in the same period. The national statistical institute, Ibge, says there were fewer dismissals and more new jobs created in June and that the number of people seeking work fell. These figures refer to the country's six main urban conglomerates, with a combined economically active population of 21.8m; the EAP of the whole country is estimated at 87.7m
