PARAGUAY: Debt servicing problems

Paraguay has announced that it is unable to pay some US$33m in debt-servicing obligations that have fallen due since the beginning of the year. 

Finance minister Alcides Jiménez blames this on delays in the payment of royalties by the binational Yacyretá and Itaipú hydro power plants.
