On 26 April Bolivia's vice president, Álvaro Garcí­a Linera, announced a 5% annual wage increase for public sector workers. He claimed that this was a real increase: inflation in 2009 was 0.26%. The announcement disappointed the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) which had been pushing for a 9% wage increase.
