PERU: Judiciary in embarrassing tangle

Serious questions are being asked about the credibility of Peru's judiciary at a particularly sensitive time. Just as Chile's supreme court took a giant step towards approving the extradition of Peru's former president Alberto Fujimori, Peru's weekly news magazine Caretas alleged that one of the magistrates elected by the legislative assembly to sit on Peru's constitutional tribunal (TC) had links to Vladimiro Montesinos, Fujimori's discredited security chief.
