Cuba’s Partido Comunista de Cuba (PCC) government this week approved a decree updating the legal framework for the country’s oil and gas sector. The move, which opens it up further to private investment, is in line with the sweeping economic reform package unveiled in June by the PCC government [WR-26-24] as part of efforts to ease the enormous pressure applied by President Donald Trump’s US administration, which is pushing for Cuba’s economic and political opening. The latest legislative overhaul comes as Cuba’s energy sector remains in crisis – a situation significantly worsened by the fuel blockade implemented by the US since the start of the year, as well as US sanctions targeting the sector and other key parts of the Cuban economy.End of preview - This article contains approximately 672 words.
