URUGUAY | Big loan approved. The World Bank marked the 80th anniversary of relations with Uruguay this week by signing off on a US$300m loan to boost private investment, growth, employment, and fiscal sustainability. The vice president of the World Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean, Susana Cordeiro Guerra, praised Uruguay’s “foundation of stability and institutional strength”, but underlined the need to “leverage that strength to make Uruguay a more competitive country, with a more productive economy that generates more quality jobs”. She said the World Bank financing would help the country in “taking that next step”.
