*The next round of talks between Mexico and the US over the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will now take place on 28-29 September in Washington, rather than the week of 21 September according to the
Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing people familiar with the talks. According to WSJ
“it wasn’t immediately clear why the negotiations were delayed”, although it suggested complications surrounding the scheduling due to the fact that China’s President
Xi Jinping is also due in Washington that week. This would be the fourth round of talks regarding the trade deal, which the US
opted on 1 July not to renew for another 16 years, triggering an annual review process.
