In brief: Chile posts rise in exports

*Chile’s ministry for international economic relations (Subrei) has released its latest foreign trade report, which showed that the country’s exports from January-August totalled US$83.25bn, up 19.1% on the same period in 2025. Chile’s total trade balance in the first eight months of this year rose to US$147.20bn, up 12.7% year-on-year. In the month of August alone, Chilean goods exports reached US$9.50bn, up 11.8% year-on-year, and a record for the month of August. Monthly copper exports totalled US$4.63bn in August, down 3.2% year-on-year, but exports of other products totalled US$4.88bn, which is up 31% year-on-year. The report highlighted that the overall rise in monthly exports was driven by products such as gold, chemical products, fruits, wine, salmon, metal products, and machinery and equipment, among other things. Regarding trade partners, Chile’s top export destinations are China, with a total export value of US$28.0bn in January-August 2026; followed by the US, with US$13.97bn, and Japan (US$7.34bn).
