*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest data for its consumer price index (Ipca), which showed a monthly deflation rate of 0.32% in August and put annual inflation at 4.22%. Brazil’s inflation has been slowing in recent months, with the latest figures coming after monthly inflation of 0.16% and annual inflation of 4.64% in June, followed by a monthly rate of 0.07% and an annual rate of 4.44% in July. The annual figure of 4.22% in August is also lower than the 4.27% median forecast of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Of the nine categories of products and services measured, four posted monthly decreases in prices. The greatest deflation in August was registered in housing (-1.87%) and transport (-0.86%). Meanwhile, the categories with the highest monthly price increases were personal spending (+1.30%) and household items (+0.64%).
