*Peru’s national statistics institute (Inei) has announced that copper production declined by 4.7% year-on-year in June, highlighting lower production by US-headquartered Southern Peru Copper Corporation, which owns the Toquepala mine in Tacna region, the Cuajone mine in Moquegua, and the stalled Tía María project in Arequipa. Inei also pointed to lower production at the Quellaveco mine, owned by UK firm Anglo American in Moquegua; the Antapaccay mine, owned by Switzerland-headquartered Glencore in Cusco; the Las Bambas mine, owned by China’s MMG in Apurímac; the Cerro Verde mine, owned primarily by US firm Freeport-McMoRan in Arequipa; the Mina Justa mine, owned by the Peruvian company Marcobre in Ica; and the Peruvian firm Nexa Resources Perú, which owns the Cerro Lindo mine in Ica. By region, copper production fell by 24.3% in Tacna, 16.5% in Cusco, 8.9% in Moquegua, 7.3% in Arequipa, and 6.8% in Apurímac.
