*The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has reported that the Canal registered a total of 10,726 transits in the first three quarters of fiscal year 2026 (FY2026), which runs from October 2025-September 2026, up 5.2% on the same period in FY2025. According to the same report, over the first three quarters of FY2026, tonnage totalled 389.96m PC/UMS (Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System) tonnes, up 7.2% on the same period in the previous fiscal year. In the first three quarters of FY2026 total transit revenue reached US$4.80bn, up 17% year-on-year, while net income reached US$3.61bn, up 19% year-on-year. The report also cites ACP administrator Ricaurte Vásquez Morales as warning that the probability of a severe El Niño weather phenomenon had increased from 25% in April to 81% currently, and saying that the ACP was maintaining “permanent monitoring of weather conditions and is prepared to implement preventative measures”. He said that “capacity restrictions will likely be applied, not only regarding draft limits, but also on the number of daily reservations”, while noting that this is a decision where “we must let the market guide us.”
