ECUADOR: Los Choneros leader captured
Ecuador’s interior minister John Reimberg announced the capture of Ronald Javier Macías Villamar (‘Javi’) in Colombia on 17 June. The brother and presumptive heir of José Adolfo Macías Villamar (‘Fito’), the leader of the organised criminal group Los Choneros who was captured in June 2025, Javi was sentenced in absentia in late May last year with asset laundering in a case involving six of Fito’s closest relatives, who were handed down prison terms of between seven and ten years.
