The government led by the left-wing Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), as well as right-wing opposition figures such as Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (Partido Liberal, PL), have recently ramped up their efforts to appeal to evangelical Christians ahead of Brazil’s general elections in October. On 4 June evangelical church leaders organised a major rally in São Paulo, which was attended by Bolsonaro and other conservative politicians.
