*A former president of Bolivia’s central bank (BCB),
Edwin Rojas (2020-2025), has been arrested on charges of dereliction of duty and anti-economic conduct, alongside other former BCB executives. Prosecutor
Miguel Cardozo told journalists that the BCB suffered US$124m in economic damages relating to
“irregular transactions” concerning bonds.
“They sold and bought bonds in greater amounts than those which had been established,” Cardozo said. The others who are being charged are the BCB’s former interim director
Óscar Ferrufino, former interim director
Diego Pérez Cueto, former head of operations
Pascual Oswaldo Nina, former senior economic policy adviser
Rolando Sergio Colque, and former financial analysts
Rolando Jorge Olmos and
Renan Marcelo Franco.
