Jorge Rodríguez, has said that a reform bill is being planned for the country’s mining sector with the aim of boosting international investment. In a YouTube interview with Venezuelan journalist
Luis Olavarrieta, Rodríguez said that, following the passage of a
hydrocarbon reform in late January, a mining reform would mean that
“big foreign companies can come to extract gold, diamonds, and so-called rare earth minerals”. Rodríguez also used the interview to again downplay the prospects of elections in the short-term.
“There are always elections in Venezuela, there are established periods, and we’ll undoubtedly reach a consensus, political agreements [in talks with the opposition], but the most important thing right now is society… the economy… that people feel like their most important needs are being met,” he said.
