In brief: Brazil seeks deeper ties with Saudi Arabia over critical minerals

*Brazil’s minister for mining and energy, Alexandre Silveira, has met with officials from Saudi Arabia in Riyadh to discuss boosting bilateral cooperation in the mining sector, especially potential partnerships regarding Brazil’s significant reserves of critical minerals. According to a Brazilian government press release, geological surveys have only mapped out around 30% of the country, suggesting that there could still be more reserves to be discovered. He also requested support from Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund (PIF) for more geological mapping initiatives to better understand Brazil’s critical mineral potential. Silveira invited representatives from Saudi mining investment firm Manara to boost its activity in Brazil. The government highlighted that Manara is already a partner of Brazilian mining giant Vale.
