ECUADOR: Homicides hit all-time high in 2025

Ecuador suffered its most violent year on record in 2025, with homicides exceeding the previous record set in 2023. President Daniel Noboa’s government has so far been unable to meaningfully dent the power of criminal gangs, despite this being his central focus since taking office over two years ago. The final days of 2025 were marked by announcements on emergency security measures.
