In brief: Mexico sees monthly rise, annual drop in industrial production

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported a 0.7% year-on-year drop in industrial activity in October 2025. In monthly terms, Inegi’s index of industrial activity (Imai) increased by 0.7% as compared to September 2025. This follows an annual decrease of 3.3% in September, when the Imai was down 0.4% in monthly terms. The monthly rise in October was driven by a 3.8% increase in construction, a 1.6% rise in utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas), and a 0.7% increase in mining, while manufacturing fell by 0.3%. In year-on-year terms, mining was down 0.7% and manufacturing dropped by 1.4%. However, utilities and construction both saw yearly rises, up 1.7% and 1.5% respectively.
