*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the latest figures for its consumer price index (IPC), which put monthly inflation in November at 2.5% and annual inflation at 31.4%. Both rates saw a slight increase on the previous month, with monthly inflation up from 2.3%
in October and the annual rate up from 31.3%. This is the third consecutive month of rises in monthly inflation and the first monthly increase in the annual rate
since April 2024. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the categories with the highest price increases in November were housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+3.4%), transport (+3.0%), and food and non-alcoholic drinks (+2.8%). The smallest price rise was in the clothing and footwear category (+0.5%). Despite the slight rise, Argentina’s Economy Minister
Luis Caputo hailed the results on social media, noting that monthly inflation had been at 25.5% when President
Javier Milei took office
in December 2023. He stated that, after almost two years of the Milei government, inflation had fallen to its lowest levels in eight years.
