In brief: Costa Rica’s unemployment edges up in quarterly terms

*Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures showing that the unemployment rate for the August-October 2025 rolling quarter was 6.0%. This is up from 5.7% in the previous rolling quarter but down 1.0 percentage points on the same period in 2024. In absolute terms, the unemployed population in the August-October 2025 rolling quarter was 141,000 people, of whom 77,000 were men, and 64,000 were women. The same report also indicates an ongoing gender imbalance in unemployment, with a 6.9% unemployment rate for women compared with 5.4% for men.
