*Brazil’s state development bank (BNDES) has announced that it will invest R$4.64bn (US$860m) to finance expansion, modernisation, and maintenance works in 11 airports around the country. The airports to receive the funding will be Congonhas airport in the city of São Paulo, three airports in the central-western state of Mato Grosso do Sul, four airports in the northern state of Pará, and three airports in the south-eastern state of Minas Gerais. A significant portion of the planned investment (R$2bn) will be allocated for Congonhas, which is the country’s second busiest airport, behind São Paulo Guarulhos. According to a BNDES press release, Congonhas will gain a new passenger terminal and more boarding bridges, and its runways will be also receive upgrades to improve operational efficiency.
