Hurricane Melissa, which formed over the Caribbean Sea on 21 October, was the strongest storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season and the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Jamaica in the country’s history. The storm affected more than 8m people in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, making landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane, with winds up to 259 km/h, on 28 October, and in Cuba as a Category 3 hurricane, on 29 October.
