*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures for its mid-month inflation index (Ipca-15), showing a monthly rate of 0.20% for mid-November and an annual rate of 4.50%, which is the upper limit of Brazil’s annual inflation target range of 3.0% +/-1.5. Although the mid-November monthly figure marks a slight acceleration from the 0.18% inflation registered for mid-October, the latest annual rate is down from 4.94% the previous month. Reports in the media have highlighted that this is the first time since January that the Ipca-15 showed an annual rate of 4.50%. Of the nine categories of products and services measured by the Ibge, seven posted a monthly rise in mid-month inflation. The greatest monthly increases in prices were registered in transport (+0.22%), health and personal care (+0.29%), and personal spending (+0.85%). The only categories that registered monthly deflation were household items (-0.20%) and communication (-0.19%).
