Nicolás Maduro has said that the country is poised to begin exporting natural gas to Colombia, saying that
“the first gas export to Colombia is ready, it’s at the border, awaiting a few technical elements so that Venezuela can begin selling gas to Colombia”. Colombia’s state oil company Ecopetrol announced in August 2024 that it planned to
begin importing Venezuelan gas in 2025 in order to guarantee supply in Colombia, with the gas expected to flow through the Trans-Caribbean pipeline, also known as the Antonio Ricaurte pipeline.
