The country retained its global leadership in ship registrations. There are currently 7,357 ships flying the Panamanian flag. The Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP) Publisher this figure, for the first half of 2007, in Lloyd's Register. Lloyds keeps the score of registrations for vessels of over 100 tonnes. Panama's nearest rivals are: the US which registers 6,458 vessels; Singapore , Liberia (2,020), the UK (1,607); the Bahamas (1,417); Malta (1,341); Hong Kong (1,203); the Marshall Islands (1,023); and Cyprus (988).
