In brief: Mexico’s Sheinbaum renews anti-inflation deal again

*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that her government has signed another renewal of the package against inflation and high prices (Pacic) with 20 producers and 12 supermarket chains, meaning the price of the basic basket of goods will not increase over the next six months. The agreement will maintain the price of the 24 products in the basic basket at M$910 (US$49.63). Finance Minister Édgar Amador Zamora said this represented a 3.4% price decrease in real terms. He added that inflation in the first ten months of the year was the lowest since 2022, when the agreement was first signed. Annual inflation in October stood at 3.57%, down from 3.76% in September. The Pacic was first implemented by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024) in May 2022. Sheinbaum has renewed the Pacic twice before, in November 2024 and May this year.
