In brief: Argentina’s Pluspetrol sells off shale field to US firm
*Argentina’s Economy Minister Luis Caputo has announced that US-based petroleum and natural gas exploration and production company, Continental Resources, is acquiring the Los Toldos II Oeste shale field located in Argentina’s Vaca Muerta shale field in Neuquén province, from Argentine oil company Pluspetrol. In a regulatory filing Pluspetrol confirmed that it was ceding 90% of its position in the Los Toldos field to Continental. In a social media post, Caputo described Continental’s acquisition of the shale field as “excellent news for Argentina” which he said would no doubt be followed by other independent US oil companies “who see that the shale potential in Argentina now has a political and economic framework which justifies the investment”.
