In brief: Mexico to update laws on digital casinos and gambling

*Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that the government will promote new legislation regarding digital casinos and gambling platforms. She is responding to the government’s day-earlier announcement that it had identified 13 casinos suspected of being used by organised crime for money laundering, which have since been suspended. In her daily press conference, President Sheinbaum said that the online gambling sector had expanded without sufficient oversight, stating that the rules for online casinos need to be “updated, because when the law was made, they did not exist in the way they do today… [and that] opens the door to money laundering.”
