In brief: Brazilian machinery exports grow in spite of tariffs

*The Brazilian association of industrial machinery manufacturers (Abimaq) has announced that machinery exports in September totalled US$1.33bn, up by 5.1% from August and by 1.8% year-on-year. Exports from January-September remained similar to those in the same period of 2024, despite a 2.2% fall in international prices and an 8.2% drop in exports to the US, which has imposed 50% import tariffs on many Brazilian products. Abimaq stated that the drop in US sales was compensated by a 2.8% increase in physical export volume and by an 18.5% increase in sales to South American countries. In September, machinery exports to North America fell by 10% in monthly terms and by 13.1% year-on-year, with Abimaq highlighting monthly drops in components (-28.9%), agricultural machinery (-20.6%), manufacturing machinery (-18.5%), and machinery for infrastructure (-14.8%).
