In brief: Brazil’s automotive sector warns of semiconductor shortage

*Brazil’s national association of vehicle manufacturers (Anfavea) has warned that vehicle production in the country is being put at risk by a “critical shortage of semiconductors”. In a statement circulated in the Brazilian press, Anfavea said that: “The new chips crisis… intensified this month, after the Dutch government took control of the manufacturer Nexperia, a semiconductor giant operating in that country, and which is the subsidiary of a Chinese group [Wingtech Technology]”. Anfavea added that in response to this, “China imposed restrictions on the export of electronic components, which is already affecting production in some automotive factories in Europe and risks halting assembly in Brazil”.
