In brief: Economic activity stagnates in Mexico

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released its latest global indicator of economic activity (IGAE), revealing that economic activity increased by 0.6% in August compared to the previous month, while activity showed no change in yearly terms, on seasonally adjusted figures. This compares to a monthly decrease of 0.9% in July, when the IGAE dropped 1.2% in yearly terms. In real terms, the IGAE fell by 0.9% year-on-year in August. Activities in the primary (agriculture) sector increased by 14.5% in monthly terms, while those in the tertiary (services) sector were up by 0.5%. Activities in the secondary (manufacturing) sector fell by 0.3%. In yearly terms, activities in the primary sector were up by 15.3% and those in the tertiary sector increased by 0.8%, on seasonally adjusted figures. Activities in the secondary sector dropped by 2.7% in yearly terms.
