In brief: Panama Canal revenue up in FY2025

*The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has reported total revenues of US$5.71bn for fiscal year (FY) 2025, up 14.4% on the US$4.99bn recorded in FY 2024. The same ACP report highlights that for FY2025, the Panama Canal achieved a net profit of US$4.13bn, up US$372m on budget projections, and up US$695m on the net profit registered in FY2024. The report highlights that during FY2025, the Panama Canal registered 13,404 transits, up 19.3% on the same period in 2024. Of the total, 3,342 corresponded to Neopanamax vessels while 10,062 were Panamax vessels. According to the same report, tonnage totalled 489.1m PC/UMS (Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System) tonnes. This was up from 423.1m PC/UMS tonnes in FY2024. The ACP identifies the container and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) segments as key growth drivers and notes the continued recovery of the dry bulk carrier segment, while results from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) segment were below expectations, mainly due to international freight costs. The statement also highlights extraordinary factors contributing to revenue such as “frontloading” (advanced distribution), which contributed at least US$100m, as well as the results of the long-term booking allocation programme (LoTSA), which helped to partially offset the impact of the fall in LNG vessel transits.
