*The Brazilian association of meat exporters (Abiec) has reported that beef exports reached a monthly record of 352,000 tonnes (t) in September. This marks a 31.1% increase on the same month last year and a 17.6% increase on the previous month. In a statement, Abiec highlighted that the strong beef export figures come despite the
steep US tariffs on many Brazilian products that have been in force since 6 August. Beef is a major Brazilian export subject to the US tariff rate of 50%, but the rise in overall beef exports in September suggest that Brazil’s agribusiness companies can continue exporting high volumes to trade partners other than the US. In September China was Brazil’s top destination for beef exports, receiving 190,500 t, followed by the European Union (EU) (15,400 t), and Mexico (13,200 t). Beef exports to the US in September totalled 9,900 t.
