*Peru’s congress has almost unanimously approved another early withdrawal from private pension funds (AFPs), in what the media is widely reporting is the eighth such move since 2020 when affiliates were first authorised
to make partial withdrawals from AFPs to assist with hardship caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The latest withdrawal proposal was approved in the unicameral congress with 116 votes in favour, none against, and five abstentions. It permits a withdrawal of up to four ‘taxable units’ (UITs) from AFPs, which according to local media equates to PEN21,400 (US$6,150).
