In brief: Brazil’s unemployment rate drops again

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest unemployment figures, showing a total of 6.12m unemployed people in the rolling quarter of May-July 2025, bringing the national unemployment rate down to 5.6%. This marks a decrease from 5.8% in the April-June 2025 rolling quarter, 6.2% in March-May, and 6.6% in the February-April quarter. In year-on-year terms, the latest quarterly figure is down from 6.8% in May-July 2024. The Ibge stated in a press release that the jobless rate for May-July this year is the lowest quarterly figure on record since the institute began recording this unemployment metric in 2012. In May-July 2025, the total employed population stood at 102.4m people, which is also a record figure.
