ARGENTINA: Markets panic after Milei electoral setback
On 8 September the Argentine peso hit a new low against the US dollar, the main index of the Buenos Aires stock exchange, Merval, fell precipitously, and country risk soared as the markets reacted with serious concern to the chastening defeat suffered by President Javier Milei’s far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in the legislative elections in the province of Buenos Aires a day earlier.
