In brief: El Salvador boosts gold reserves

*El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) has announced that it has acquired 13,999 troy ounces (t oz) in gold, worth US$50m. According to the BCR, this boosts its gold reserves from 44,106 t oz to 58,105 t oz, worth US$207.4m. The BCR highlights that this is its first acquisition of gold since 1990 and is part of its “strategy of diversifying international reserves”.
