In brief: Argentina’s monthly inflation creeps up again

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released the inflation figures for July, showing a monthly inflation rate of 1.9% and an annual rate of 36.6%. Monthly inflation is up from inflation of 1.6% registered in June and of 1.5% registered in May, marking the second consecutive month of monthly increases, although remaining just below the psychological threshold of 2%. The annual rate continued to decrease in July, down from 39.4% in June and 43.5% in May, representing its 15th consecutive decline. Of the 12 categories of products and services measured by Indec, the categories with the highest monthly inflation were recreation and culture (+4.8%), transport (+2.8%), and restaurants and hotels (+2.8%). The categories to register the smallest monthly price rises were health (+1.1%) and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (+0.6%), while clothing and footwear was the only category to register a monthly price drop (-0.9%).
