*Brazil’s ministry of development, industry, trade, and services (MDIC) has released its figures for the country’s trade balance in July, which showed a monthly trade surplus of US$7.07bn, down 6.3% compared to the same month in 2024. However, the latest result marks an increase from the surplus of US$5.71bn registered for June, stemming the downward trend of three consecutive monthly decreases in the trade surplus from April-June. Exports in July this year totalled US$32.31bn, up 4.8% year-on-year, while the total import value stood at US$25.24bn, up 8.4% from July last year. The yearly rise in exports was mainly driven by sectors such as manufacturing, with a monthly export value of US$17.58bn (+7.4% year-on-year), and extractive industries, with exports totalling US$7.42bn (+3.6%). Regarding export destinations, Brazil shipped US$3.71bn worth of goods to the US, up 3.8% compared to July 2024, and US$1.66bn in exports to Argentina, up 42.4%. Meanwhile, monthly exports to China totalled US$10.4bn, down 2.7% year-on-year.
