Authorities in Mexico’s eastern state of Veracruz have confirmed the arrest of a third person in relation to the kidnapping of a retired teacher and taxi driver, who was found dead on 24 July. The case of Irma Hernández Cruz, who was kidnapped by a criminal group after apparently refusing to make an extortion payment, has shone a light on the problem of extortion in Veracruz and across Mexico.
