In brief: Argentina approves lithium project for Australian firm

*The evaluation committee of the Argentine government’s incentive for large investments scheme (Rigi) has approved a lithium project proposed by Australian mining company Galan Lithium. The announcement was made on social media yesterday by Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who stated that the US$217m will be invested by Galan Lithium to extract minerals from the Salar del Hombre Muerto, in the north-western province of Catamarca. Caputo said that over US$180m of lithium is expected to be exported from 2029. In the same social media post, Caputo said that the Rigi committee rejected a lithium project proposed by Chinese mining firm Ganfeng.
