MEXICO: CJNG hit by sanctions

The US government led by President Donald Trump announced sanctions against five leading members of Mexico’s Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) on 18 June. This came just over a week after sanctions were unveiled against its main rival, the Cártel de Sinaloa [WR-25-23]. The sanctions reflect the force with which the Trump administration is going after Mexico’s main cartels, and the pressure it is placing on Mexico’s government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum to follow suit.
