SURINAME: Budget deficit rises

Suriname's budget deficit is set to triple to Su$650m (US$232m) for the fiscal year 2007. In his budget presentation on 2 October President Ronald Venetiaan announced that his government expects an income of US$585m while government expenditure will be around US$817m. According to the Suriname Planning Authority, the budget deficit will be the equivalent of 11% of GNP.
