HAITI: Lack of food undermines AIDS treatment

Thousands of Haitians infected with HIV are dying of malnutrition. According to 2004 figures from UNAIDS, there are 280,000 people infected with HIV in the country. That same year 24,000 died from AIDS. There are approximately 11,300 HIV-positive women giving birth each year, with 3,970 more babies born infected with HIV/AIDS. Haiti is the Latin American country with most cases of HIV infections per inhabitant.
